Machining Time Estimator

Turn feed, speed and setup into a cycle time and a batch time, and show how much of the batch is the setup rather than the cutting.

4m 9s per part

Cycle time at 288 mm/min feed rate. The batch of 250 runs 1082m 30s including setup.

Reading the number

  • Feed rate 288 mm/min is 0.12 mm per revolution at 2400 rpm. That is the number the cut is actually made at - everything else follows from it.
  • Setup is 4% of this batch, so the price is essentially the cycle time times the quantity. This is the volume at which cutting a minute off the cycle is worth more than shaving the setup.
  • 3 tool changes at 25s each is 75.0s of the cycle. Reducing the number of tools a part needs is a design decision with a time cost attached.
  • Machine time only. It excludes programming, inspection, deburring, finishing and packing, all of which a quote carries separately.

Arithmetic on the feed, speed, length and setup you enter. It does not recommend cutting parameters and it is not a quotation - machine time is one line of a price, not the price.
