CNC Cost Driver Calculator
Rank what is actually driving the cost of a part - material, tolerance, batch size, features, finishing, inspection - and see which one to change.
Result
0 dominant drivers
Nothing here is dominating the cost. The price is made of cycle time and the normal work in the features, which is the healthiest shape for a quote to have.
Separate finishing operation
MajorAnodising, plating or heat treatment is a second supplier, a second lead time and a second set of handling risks. It is priced by area and by batch, so it does not divide down the way machining does.
What to change: Confirm the finish is functional rather than decorative. A finish specified for appearance on an internal face is the most common avoidable line on a quote.
Material machinability
ContributingAluminium 6061-T6 rates 9/10 - it cuts freely, so the material is not where the money is going on this part.
What to change: Nothing to change here. Look at the drivers below.
Batch size (250 pieces)
ContributingAt this quantity the setup is spread thin and the price is essentially cycle time multiplied out. Cutting a minute off the cycle is worth more here than shaving the setup.
What to change: Look at the feature count and the tool changes: consolidating tools is what buys time at volume.
2 standard machined features
ContributingPockets, threads, slots and finish callouts are normal machining work. They add cycle time in proportion to their size, and they are the part of the price that scales honestly with quantity.
What to change: Nothing structural. If a fine-finish callout covers a whole face and only part of it is functional, narrowing it is a real saving.

- Nothing here is dominating the cost. The price is made of cycle time and the normal work in the features, which is the healthiest shape for a quote to have.
- Machinability 9/10 for Aluminium 6061-T6 is the shop's own ranking, published on the grade page - it is a comparison between materials, not a rate to multiply anything by.
It ranks what is driving the cost and says what to change. It does not produce a price: rates, setup hours and material costs are ours to quote and yours to compare, and a number invented here would be worse than none.
