For an SME in Birmingham or a design consultancy in Bristol the numbers are simple: a machined part in 316 stainless that costs £35–£60 from a local job shop comes in at £12–£26 from us, freight and duty included. Tolerances, BS/ISO standards and drawing practice
UK drawings usually carry BS EN ISO 2768 general tolerances, GD&T per BS 8888 (which mirrors ISO 1101), and surface texture per BS EN ISO 4287. We read them daily. Standard machining tolerance is ±0.05 mm; on critical features we hold ±0.01 mm routinely and ±0.005 mm on ground diameters.
CMM strategy follows the drawing: datums first, then derived features, per ISO 1101. Every production order ships with inspection report, material certificate and certificate of conformity. AS9102 first-article reports available for aerospace.
Materials actually ordered from the UK
UK orders skew toward: 304/316 stainless for food, pharma and marine; 6082-T6 and 7075-T6 aluminium for rail and automation; EN24T (4340) for shafts and tooling; PEEK for medical and chemical; and a steady stream of 17-4PH and Inconel for energy. Send the BS/EN designation and we confirm stock before quoting.
Finishes: as-machined Ra 1.6, Ra 0.8 for sealing faces, black anodize, passivation for medical-grade stainless. If a drawing specifies a finish we cannot guarantee, we flag it before the quote — not after the first delivery.
Lead times, customs and time zones
Xi’an is seven to eight hours ahead of London. Send a drawing Friday afternoon UK time and our engineers pick it up Monday morning Xi’an time — your Monday. Prototypes in aluminium and stainless in 10–15 working days, production in 3–5 weeks, then 3–5 days by DHL Express, customs handled.
We quote EXW or FOB Xi’an; DDP (delivered duty paid) is available so the landed cost is fixed before you approve. Payment by T/T, PayPal or L/C; invoices in GBP, USD or EUR; proforma invoice for first orders. Project managers answer around the clock and schedule calls into UK business hours.
